Crafts for Therapy: How Annabell Has Been Stitching Her Way to Success

Why is crafts for therapy a successful hobby for our tenants?

At Dell View, we’re always looking for ways to support our service users to explore their interests and discover new skills.

So, we were delighted to celebrate a particularly special achievement by one of our residents, Annabell Young, who completed her very first sewing project – a bright and cheerful handmade bag.

Keep reading to discover how she’s been using her crafts for therapy, and the sense of accomplishment she’s felt since completing her first project:

Crafts for Therapy: Annabell’s Sewing Project

Annabell, 52, has been living here at Dell View since 2017. She’s always enjoyed arts and crafts, and often helps to run activities within the home.

When she heard about the sewing classes at the local community hub, she was keen to try something new. The classes are run by Leading Lives, an organisation that offers clubs and activities for people with additional needs, and provide the perfect opportunity for residents to learn new skills in a supportive and social environment.

While sewing was a new challenge for Annabell, she approached it with determination and focus.

At times, she found it difficult to maintain concentration, but her persistence and enthusiasm ensured she completed the project from start to finish. The result was a colourful and versatile bag, complete with a long handle, perfect for carrying her knitting or craft supplies.

Annabell’s Success

It was wonderful to see the pride on Annabell’s face when she brought her finished creation home, and she enjoyed sharing her progress each week with our team at Dell View. The bag is more than just a craft project; it represents Annabell’s creativity, focus, and willingness to embrace new challenges.

Annabell also really enjoyed the social aspect of attending the classes. Meeting new people, sharing ideas, and learning together brought an added joy to the project. It gave her an opportunity to connect with others in the local community, build confidence, and have fun while developing a new skill.

She’s already thinking about her next project and is eager to continue her creative journey. Looking ahead, she hopes to try her hand at learning hair, nails, and make-up in future sessions at the hub, expanding her repertoire of skills and interests.

Speaking about Annabell’s achievement, Joy Henshaw, our Regional Director at Wellbeing Care, said: “We’re so proud of Annabell for her achievement. Her dedication and creativity are an inspiration to everyone at Dell View. It is wonderful to see her confidence grow through something she truly enjoys.”

Annabell’s success is a perfect example of how we support residents to pursue activities that matter to them. At Dell View, we aim to provide opportunities for personal growth, creativity, and connection, helping every resident feel valued and empowered.

Whether it’s joining a club, taking part in a community project, or learning a new skill, we encourage our residents to try new experiences and embrace their passions.

Crafts for Therapy: Building Community Connections

In addition to the personal achievement, the project demonstrates the broader impact of connecting with local organisations.

Leading Lives provides an excellent platform for residents like Annabell to engage with the community, share their talents, and learn from others in a welcoming and accessible environment.

These partnerships are key to helping our residents feel part of something bigger, offering both social and developmental benefits.

For Annabell, her handmade bag is just the beginning, and we’re excited to continue supporting her creative journey.

At Wellbeing Care, we take great pride in providing opportunities for residents to explore their interests, develop new skills, and remain connected with their communities. Annabell’s story is a shining example of the kind of support we strive to offer every day.
