At Nursing Home, our aim is to provide an outstanding level of care to all residents, tailored to their individual needs. This embraces the fundamental principles of good care practice and may be witnessed and evaluated through the delivery, conduct and control of quality care.

Philosophy of Care

Those who live in the home should be able to do so in accordance with our philosophy of care and their own individual requirements.

Residents shall live in a clean, comfortable and safe environment and be treated with respect and sensitivity to their individual needs and abilities. Staff are responsive to individual needs and will provide the appropriate degree of care, to assure the highest possible quality of life. To meet the resident’s needs, the care services provided are designed to achieve the following objectives:

  1. A service that strives to offer a better quality of life. In that respect, the care service is designed to meet the certification requirements of the Operational Audit, in a people orientated fashion.
    2. Flexible delivery of care services in an attentive and non-discriminatory fashion; while respecting each resident’s right to independence, privacy, dignity, and fulfilment. As well as the right to make informed choices and to take appropriate risks.
    3. Respect for each resident’s needs and values in matters of religion, culture, race or ethnic origin, sexual orientation, political affiliation, marital status, parenthood and disabilities or impairments.
    4. Delivery of a full care service in accordance with the Statement of Terms and Conditions agreed at the point of moving into the home.
    5. Managing and implementing a formal programme of staff planning, selection, recruitment, training and personal development to enable care needs to be met.
    6. Efficient and effective management of the care service to make the best use of resources and to maximise value for money.
    7. The provision for all of the written information on the home’s procedure for handling complaints, comments and compliments.

We will meet the assessed clinical needs of each resident; assisting with their physical, mental, spiritual, cultural, social and emotional wellbeing.

Residents are encouraged to participate in the development of their individual Care Plan, in which the involvement of family and friends is greatly valued.

The development of the Residents Person Centred Plan of Care (PCP) will be achieved through talking to the resident and their family and friends. In addition, we will use a Multi-Disciplinary approach in collecting all other relevant information to put a care plan together. A PCP is exactly what it states which is an individualised plan to meet the needs and wants of the resident.

All care staff within the home will be appropriately qualified to deliver the highest standards of care. A continuous staff training programme is implemented to ensure that these high standards are maintained in line with the latest initiatives and developments in care practices as may be laid down in appropriate legislation, regulations and the Care Quality Commission guidelines.

Your Room

The Cottage’s current accommodation consists of 53 well-appointed bedrooms with en suite facilities.

All bedrooms in the home are fully furnished with fitted wardrobes, vanity units, TV & telephone points, central heating & picturesque views of the surrounding grounds.

Residents are welcome to bring their personal possessions to make themselves feel at home. The home is fully equipped with an integrated nurse call system, accessible Parker baths, and a range of beds with pressure relieving mattresses, hoists and accessible toilet facilities. We have the full range of fire protection systems, as recommended by Fire Regulations.

Everything you need

All our rooms are furnished to the highest specifications with your comfort in mind, and each room has individual décor. Your bedroom furniture consists of: an appropriate bed suitable to your needs, wardrobe, three drawer chest, bedside table with lockable drawer, over-bed table, armchair and other furniture suitable to the size of the room.

Personalise your space

We understand that moving into The Cottage will be a considerable transition, but one we try to make feel as easy as possible. Your room is your own personal space, which is why we encourage you to personalise it if you like, by hanging your favourite pictures or bringing small pieces of furniture.

What changes can I make to the room?

We encourage people to make the rooms their own. Quite a few of our residents will ask us to take out pieces of our furniture to make room for some of their own from home. Others bring loads of stuff and really make it their own.

There are communal lounges for the residents to use at their leisure. There’s also a quiet lounge available to all residents.
Whether you’re entertaining your family and friends, spending time with other residents or taking part in activities, our living rooms are ideal. It’s always up to you whether you want to get involved with activities – you’re more than welcome to sit back, relax and enjoy the atmosphere.

Making friends

Our communal lounge spaces are very popular with the residents and they’re where a lot of the socialising in the home takes place, as well as in the dining rooms. And our activities often get residents talking about their lives and experiences in a fun, relaxed setting.

How can residents spend private time with their relatives?

There is a dedicated quiet lounge in the where families enjoy the peace and quiet together. You’re also free to use any of the home or gardens, or your own room, to meet with your visitors.

Are residents free to come and go around the home as they please?

Of course. This is your home and all the communal areas are here for you to enjoy. If you’d rather spend the day in your room, that’s your choice too

The Cottage has a huge landscaped garden with a fantastic decking area which we try and make the most of throughout the summer.

With the ground floor lounge opening onto the decked area, residents can safely and easily use the garden areas on their own, whether it’s to take a walk or enjoy the wildlife, and we often have afternoon tea outside when the weather is fine.

Can residents do their own gardening?

While many of our residents are happy to sit back and enjoy the garden and the wildlife, some of our more green-fingered residents love to get stuck in. We encourage them to plant flowers and vegetables for all the residents and staff to enjoy.

The home is registered for 53 bedrooms, either with shared or private en-­suite bathrooms.

All of our rooms are individually styled and tastefully decorated.

Activities

Activities are carried out each day by a qualified Activities Co-ordinator. There is a varied program, such as, Weekly library calls, Gardening for the green fingers, trips out for lunch and boat trips on the broads. Entertainment that can be arranged: Singers, dancers, other entertainment groups, and even management and staff singers! We also have some fun events which help to raise money for the activities fund

Dining

At The Cottage, we love our food

We firmly believe that when you eat well, you live well too. This is a core part of our philosophy of care, centring on good nutrition and the importance of mealtimes as social occasions.

Dining is an experience. So at The Cottage we aim to set our dining rooms to restaurant standards. Residents need to worry about nothing but enjoying the food.

Each day our in-house qualified chef prepares restaurant-style meals combining variety with a balanced diet and an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients. Our residents get involved in helping to plan our menus, too.

The dining rooms become a hub of conversation and laughter, which gives our residents a chance to come together and socialise. Whether it’s tea and cakes in the garden or a roast each Sunday, we encourage our residents to make the most of living in an active and friendly environment.

For those residents who require it, there is assistance at mealtimes provided by the care team.

Of course, when, where and who you eat with is entirely up to you. Friends and family can join you as often as you’d like (at a small charge), and our extras menu gives you the option to order snacks at any time of the day. There is a small kitchenette in each unit for visitors and residents to make snacks and beverages.

FAQ

Is alcohol served with meals?

We offer several beverage choices with meals including sparkling drinks. If a resident would prefer an alcoholic beverage, we are happy to oblige.

What provisions are made for residents’ birthdays?

Residents’ birthdays are always marked if they want them to be. If relatives would like to reserve a special dining room for the event, just let us know and this can be accommodated

 

Home Fees

What are the different charges for The Cottage care homes?

Generally, charges are broken down into three different elements:

  1. Personal care– provided by a carer (help with dressing, eating, bathing, mobility, etc.).
  2. Nursing care– provided by a qualified nurse
  3. Accommodation– including food, heating and living costs.

How much you pay will depend on the length of your stay and the level of care you require, as well as any chargeable extras you decide to pay for.

Nursing Clients: prices shown are per week & may vary depending upon individual patients nursing assessment needs.

Single Ensuite: From £900 per week

This fee is for accommodation and Social Care only, Nursing fees may charge extra depending on the Nursing needs of the individual. This fee does not include Hair Care and Chiropody.

Single Room: From £825 per week

This fee is for accommodation and Social Care only, Nursing fees may charge extra depending on the Nursing needs of the individual.  This fee does not include Hair Care and Chiropody.

Please Note: Free nursing allowance will be paid directly to the Cottage Care Home by the Primary Care Trust.

Do I qualify for financial assistance?

If you require financial assistance, your local authority will decide what level of care you require and look at your income and savings to determine whether you will need to make a contribution towards the cost. This will vary slightly according to where you live in the UK.

Are there any other benefits I can claim?

Yes, you might be eligible for Attendance Allowance/Disabled Living Allowance (AA/DLA). These are both tax-free, non mean-tested weekly benefits. If you’re paying for your own care, you’re likely to be eligible. If you’re receiving funding from the local authority towards your care home costs, this might not be paid as it is effectively included in that funding.

You might also qualify for Pension Credit. It’s  mean-tested, and designed to ensure a minimum guaranteed income for those with limited savings or additional private income.

If I’m receiving financial assistance, do I still get to choose my care home?

Yes. The home you choose must be suitable for your needs and registered with the registration authority.

What happens if my savings run out?

When your savings fall below the upper limits set out by the government, you are likely to be able to qualify for financial assistance. You should contact your local social service department when your savings are approaching this limit, so they’ll know when they need to help.

My partner needs care, but I don’t. How does this affect me?

Don’t worry, only the person who is going into the care home should be means tested. The property you are still living in will be ignored and your savings treated differently. Seek further advice from your social worker or benefits office.

Our people are what make our homes what they are. They’ve been chosen just as much for their caring and compassionate natures as for their qualifications and experience. Every member of staff genuinely cares about what they do and it shines through. We are proud of our excellent staff, who strive to work with a professional and friendly approach, accommodating resident requests and needs. All staff are hand-picked for their experience, qualifications, and above all, their own, individual skills.

Nursing Home

When your relative or loved one first arrives at The Cottage Nursing Home they will be introduced to their very own designated carer or a Key Worker. They will develop a relationship with your relative, supervising their care in every way; from arranging for their room to be just as they want it, to making sure everyone knows exactly how they like their tea! The designated carer will also organise any daily activities and will be fully responsible for the care plan, which is regularly reviewed and updated.

Trained Staff

Our staff receive regular training and appraisals, and in line with government legislation, all staff are screened through the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) prior to staff being offered employment.
